Quilters

During the winter months you can join the laides of the parish and serve the Lord with your time, and talents.

St. John's has quilting on Monday from 1pm-4pm.† All are welcome, no experience necessary.

This summer and fall brings a lull in the quilting for both churches except for Caroline Gorentz. She works year around stitching the quilt tops together so that our ladies will have plenty of quilts to tie when winter arrives.

She usually makes about 125 quilt tops to be put together and tied by our ladies for Charities in our area. It takes her about 2 1/2 hours to sew a top of large squares. She cuts the squares while watching TV by hand with a cardboard square as a guide.

Caroline has been quilting with the church for about 18 years.

She enjoys giving the quilts to people who need them. She delivers the quilts to the many charities after the ladies have tied them.

Most of the material is donated items or old clothing, however, she does go to Blackduck to a material store that saves the ends of the bolts for the churches. She brings back garbage bags full of material and sorts them out to cut into squares.

We need more people to help tie the quilts from Jan to March, if you have an extra afternoon, please join us.

St. John's Quilters started over 30 years ago.† We have 8-10 members who worked each Tuesday from 1:PM to 4:PM.† We meet at the church January through March.†Quilting is open to anyone who want to help, regardless of ability.

The quilts are given to many different organizations.† Some of the places that have received quilts in recent years are cancer benefits, fire victims, Health resources Life Care Center, Perham Food Shelf, Red Cross, Salvation Army, Crisis Center, Mahube, World Relief, Orphan Grain Train, Head Start Program and Lutheran Island Camp Auction.
